Walker Canada is a graphic design instructor for the Applied Technology
Education Campus, where he teaches high school students the fine points of graphic design and the joys of putting ink on paper through the offset printing process. Walker loves his job and enjoys surrounding himself with young, talented people who have the desire to learn. Wildlife art is a favorite subject of his, with watercolor being his preferred medium. "Something about watercolor just feels make me feel good," says Walker. Both of these interests were inherited from his grandfather, an artist and outdoorsman himself. "Some of my fondest childhood memories are the times spent pushing paint in the summer heat under the patio with my grandfather and drinking an endless supply of those little Cokes," says Walker. Next to his grandfather, Walker's favorite artists are Ray Davenport and Bernie Horton-both from South Carolina. When not painting watercolors, Walker enjoys expressing himself with large scale acrylics. Walker's education in the arts started in Camden, SC, at the same school where he teaches today. His best times in high school were spent studying commercial art, graphic communications and industrial drafting. Walker continued his education in Atlanta, Ga, with an associate's degree
from the Art Institute of Atlanta and a bachelor's degree with honors from the American College of Arts. Upon graduation, Walker worked in Tucker, Ga, for Year One Inc., where he was responsible for the layout, design and photography of automotive restoration catalogs. He still enjoys the automotive field through racing with his father and brother, caring for classic autos, and sometimes capturing a classic in his artwork. Having a desire to pursue work more in the fine art realm, Walker moved back to Camden and enjoys teaching and volunteering his time for The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County, using both graphic design and original fine art works to promote various events at the center. In the last four years Walker
has received several awards for his artwork, including a "Best of Show" and a "People's Popular Choice Award." Walker's summers are generally spent travelingwith his camera, looking for that perfect subject to later capture with brushstrokes.
